Where to see the castle
The medieval bridge is the classic viewpoint. From the long run of stone arches, with the weir beside them, you can look up to the keep rising above the trees on the bank. The village streets offer further glimpses of the castle from different angles.
Take your time on the bridge: the combination of water, arches and tower is the view that has drawn artists to Ardfinnan since at least the nineteenth century.
Getting to Ardfinnan
Ardfinnan is in south County Tipperary, where the R665 and R670 regional roads meet. By road it is about 10 km (4 miles) from Cahir and about 14 km (7 miles) from Clonmel. Either town makes a convenient starting point, and the drive follows the Suir valley with the Knockmealdown Mountains to the south.
